Our anesthesiologists, along with certified registered nurse anesthesiologists (CRNAs) and anesthesiology residents, care for outpatients who are discharged immediately after their surgery and do not require an overnight stay in the hospital. This ambulatory care, which spares patients the disruption of an overnight hospitalization, is designed to make the surgical experience as convenient and safe as possible for patients. The Brain Tumor Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital is dedicated to the care of patients with primary brain tumors, brain metastases, recurring brain tumors, and neurological complications of cancer. It is the only multidisciplinary group providing comprehensive brain cancer care in southern New England and has gained regional and national recognition.We offer you a wide spectrum of advanced strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors. Our section has a long tradition of excellence in caring for cardiac surgical patients. Today, we deliver cardiac anesthesiology services to over 1,250 adult and pediatric patients annually. We manage patients with complex cardiac and cardiothoracic disease, those in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, those undergoing electrophysiology procedures, ablations and lung transplantation. Our expertise includes cardiac assist devices, cardiac transplantation, port-access valve procedures and robotic surgical procedures.

Our program is designed to help address the cardio-toxic side effects of chemotherapy treatment, as well as the confounding problem of co-existing cardiac disease and cancer. We also provide pre-surgical and pre-treatment cardiac evaluation for patients with cancer.Our service began in response to emerging data, which indicates that newly developed drugs for cancer treatment are having unanticipated side effects. Pediatric Cardiology at Yale has a long history of innovation in the field of congenital heart disease, and our program is going through an exciting stage of growth and expansion.We provide the complete spectrum of cardiovascular care to patients from our community, the state and Northeast region.
