Colleen Pietras, MD, is a cardiac surgeon who cares for patients with a variety of heart problems including coronary artery disease (CAD), ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, cardiac tumors, pericardial disease, and heart arrhythmias.

Her skills include coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with partial and total arterial revascularization; repair and replacement of the aortic, mitral, tricuspid, and pulmonary valves; aneurysm repair; septal myectomy; pericardiectomy; and MAZE surgery, including cryoablation techniques.

She has a special interest in complex reoperations, minimally invasive techniques through mini-sternotomy or thoracotomy, mechanical circulatory support (Impella, extracorporal membrane oxygenation [ECMO], ventricular assist device [VAD]), and heart transplant.

Dr. Pietras joined Yale Medicine in 2018 as an assistant professor of surgery. She welcomes the return to New England to join a distinctive group of cardiac surgeons. “I feel fortunate to be in a supportive environment at an institution dedicated to the needs of our patients and to the future of our specialty."

Dr. Pietras takes pride in the relationships she forms with her patients and their families. “With the vast amount of information and resources available to all of our patients today, I am especially committed to helping them understand not only the extent of their disease process but all of the options available to them for treatment. This relationship extends beyond their surgery and includes their entire family.  I welcome the opportunity to transform an understandably stressful situation into an experience that is positive for everyone involved.”
