Our Approach

The past decade has brought about major changes in the way radiotherapy is delivered for prostate cancer. The most significant change is the development of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), allowing a targeted, precise radiation dose around the prostate, while minimizing radiation exposure of the surrounding areas, such as the rectum and bladder. With the use of image guidance technology, our ability to target the prostate has taken a large leap forward. We are able to precisely image and target the prostate and surrounding tissues using 3-D imaging and cone-beam technology.

Researchers in our program have published extensively about our experience with IMRT technology, and our radiotherapy techniques have been clinically proven to lower side effects and improve radiation outcomes for men with prostate cancer.
