Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder involving the neurons of the motor system in the brain and spinal cord. It is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The ALS Program offers a comprehensive evaluation of patients with motor neuron disorders. We treat patients with ALS, PLS, PMA, PBP, MMN, and other motor neuron disorders (e.g. polio, post-polio syndrome). Our team of specialists includes a mobility expert, an orthotics/prosthetics expert, and a representative from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Pulmonary functions tests (PFT) are also performed in the PFT lab during the visit. We coordinate different clinical services to help minimize the number of visits as we understand it can be difficult for our patients to travel.
